FAMILY CHAPTERS
Family, Newborn and Maternity Photography in Herefordshire
Family Chapters are story-led photography sessions designed to document family life as it unfolds, from pregnancy through newborn days and into the ever-changing rhythm of family life. These sessions are created to capture connection, closeness, and the feeling of being together, without pressure, performance, or rigid posing.
Based in Herefordshire and working across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, the West Midlands and surrounding countryside, I specialise in family, newborn, and maternity photography that feels natural, grounded, and emotionally honest. Family Chapters are for families who want photographs that hold meaning now and grow more valuable with time.
This is not fast photography or formulaic portraiture. It is considered, experience-led storytelling, created with care.
What Is a Family Chapters Session?Family Chapters are relaxed, narrative-focused photography sessions that adapt to your family and the stage you are in. Whether you are expecting a baby, welcoming a newborn, or documenting life with children already in motion, each session follows the same thoughtful approach.
Rather than directing every moment, I create space for real interaction to unfold. Gentle guidance is offered when needed, but the heart of the session is about allowing connection, movement, and emotion to emerge naturally. Children are not expected to behave or perform. Parents are not asked to manage or entertain. You are simply encouraged to be present together.
Each Family Chapters session is shaped around your family’s pace, needs, and environment, allowing the experience to feel supportive rather than staged.
Family, Newborn and Maternity Sessions Under One Approach
Family Chapters encompass three key stages of family life, all photographed with the same storytelling philosophy.
Maternity sessions focus on connection, anticipation, and the transition into parenthood. These sessions honour the in-between stage, capturing relationship, emotion, and physical change without overly posed direction.
Newborn sessions are calm, baby-led, and unhurried. They are designed to document those early days in your home or another familiar setting, focusing on closeness, touch, feeding, soothing, and the fleeting details that pass quickly. There is no expectation for babies to sleep or perform in a particular way.
Family sessions document life as it is now, whether that includes toddlers, older children, or a growing family dynamic. These sessions embrace movement, interaction, and personality, resulting in images that feel alive and reflective of real family life.
In-Home and Outdoor Sessions

Family Chapters sessions can take place either in your home or outdoors, depending on what best suits your family and the story you want to tell.
In-home sessions focus on everyday rituals, shared spaces, and the intimacy of family life. Homes do not need to be styled or perfect. What matters is familiarity, comfort, and authenticity.
Outdoor sessions are typically held in countryside locations, woodland, open fields, or meaningful local landscapes around Herefordshire and neighbouring counties. These sessions allow for movement, exploration, and a sense of ease, particularly suited to families with older children or those who feel most themselves outside.
If you are unsure which option is right, I offer guidance based on season, light, energy levels, and the type of images you’re drawn to.
How booking your session works
01
Get in touch
Start by sending an enquiry with a little information about your family and the type of session you’re considering. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out – this is simply the first step, and we’ll take it from there together.
02
We’ll plan things together
Once availability is confirmed, I’ll guide you through choosing the right session, timing and location. You’ll receive preparation and styling guidance so you know what to expect and can arrive feeling relaxed and confident.
03
Your session and gallery
On the day, sessions are relaxed and unhurried, allowing space for real moments to unfold naturally while you focus on being present. Afterwards, you’ll receive a full online gallery of 40+ edited images, with access to a professional print store for prints and keepsakes.
Questions are part of the process.
Here are some of the ones families ask most often.

It’s common for family photography sessions to be priced as a session fee, with just a handful of images included. After your shoot, you’re often asked to narrow down your favourites from a much larger gallery and pay extra for the rest.
That isn’t how I work.
With Family Chapters, the price you see includes everything. Your session results in a complete, thoughtfully edited gallery of 40+ images, delivered in full. There’s no second guessing, no choosing between moments, and no surprise costs later on. Because this chapter of your life isn’t meant to be edited down to just a few frames.

Family Chapters are designed for maternity, newborn and family sessions at any stage. Whether you’re expecting your first baby, welcoming a newborn, or wanting to document life with growing children, the approach adapts naturally to your family and this season of life.
-
Yes. Most families I photograph feel exactly the same way.
These sessions are not about posing or performing. I offer gentle guidance where helpful, but much of the session is simply about allowing real interactions to unfold. You don’t need to know what to do – that’s part of what I support you with.
-
They don’t need to.
Children are free to move, explore, take breaks, and be themselves. Sessions are unrushed and flexible, which allows space for energy levels and moods to shift naturally. Often, it’s these unplanned moments that become the most meaningful images.
-
Absolutely. Your home does not need to look a certain way.
Before your session, I’ll guide you on simple preparation that makes a difference without feeling overwhelming or staged. Real homes hold memory, and that authenticity is far more important than perfection.
-
You’ll receive styling guidance before your session to help you choose clothing that feels like you and photographs beautifully. This focuses on tones, textures and coordination rather than matching outfits or buying anything new. The aim is to help you feel comfortable and confident, not over-styled.
-
Yes. Your gallery includes access to a professional print store, where you can order high-quality prints, albums and keepsakes if you wish. There’s no obligation – it’s simply there as an option whenever you’re ready to turn your images into something tangible.
Let’s create something beautiful together!
